Our Spirituality

ImageFor us, a life in union with the Heart of Christ is not just a devotion in the older sense of the word; it is the very core of our spirituality.

When the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart were founded in the 19th century it was a great time for devotions: devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, to the Eucharist, to the Sacred Heart of Jesus...

When we think of a “devotion”, we may think of a set of practices, like kneeling down in front of a statue of a saint, or burning a candle, or saying a special prayer or making a novena... and any one person might have several devotions.

But a spirituality is something deeper: it springs from within, from a central vision and understanding of God which determines one’s lifestyle and is adaptable to different situations.

The spirituality at the centre of our lives is a “spirituality of the heart”.
