Student Cross was initiated in 1948 when a group of young people carried a cross to Walsingham to pray for a world that had been ravaged by war and so began a tradition that continues to the present day. ![]() The decorated Easter Cross About ten different legs/groups undertake this walk of witness, carrying a large cross, from various parts of the country. The photographs are of the Oxford Leg which Fr Dave participated in. This leg departed the Catholic Chaplaincy at Oxford University the day before Palm Sunday and arrived in Walsingham on Good Friday afternoon some 120 miles later. Stops at places such as Bicester, Stoney Stratford, Diss, Poringland and Aylsham saw the group enjoy the hospitality of various parish halls and churches. The Oxford Leg was made up of many UK students as well as people from Kenya, Germany, Greece and USA. The Easter week-end liturgies in Walsingham were a powerful and moving experience for all involved. |
